The Gathering: St Catherine’s Style

St Catherine’s community of lay students and Salesians opened its door to many friends from across the Maynooth University Campus, including a strong contingent from the Afro Caribbean society who visited the house for the first time. Also in attendance was Catherine Black a member of NUIM Chaplaincy team and friends from the Student’s Union. The 25th October evening began with the song ‘Star, Star’ ably sung by Colm and supported by Steve and the rest of the congregation. During the concelebrated Eucharist the main Celebrant Fr Martin McCormack invited us to reflect on the fact that:

A Salesian house is a place of awareness for others. – So at study and play, work and journey – May we do so in awareness that we are part of a wider Salesian World?

And that real growth and education occur when we reach out from ourselves enriching and blessing the lives of others.

We are condemned to freedom

Let us remember this freedom

Let us use this freedom for the betterment of others in Maynooth during the year…

Thanks to the many friends but especially to Heidi, our chef, there was plenty food and refreshments to be enjoyed after our Eucharist and sharing went on into the evening.

The Communion Reflection was The Power of One

The Power of One

One song can spark a moment
One flower can wake the dawn

One tree can start a forest
One bird can herald spring

One smile begins a friendship
One handclasp lifts a soul

One star can guide a ship at sea
One word can frame the goal

One vote can change a nation
One sunbeam light a room

One candle wipes out darkness
One laugh will conquer gloom

One step must start each journey
One word must start each prayer

One hope will raise our spirits
One touch can show you care

One voice can speak with wisdom
One heart can know what’s true

One life can make a difference

You see, it’s up to you.
