GC27: Organizational details

Starting today, Wednesday 5 March, the third day of the 27th General Chapter, the daily programme will assume a regular routine. The Chapter will gather in the morning for prayer in different language groups and the programme of work will follow a standard schedule. Yesterday, some of the organizational details were attended to.

05-03-2014-GC27-DailyRutineFirst of all the Secretaries appointed by the Rector Major in accordance with the General Regulations were introduced. They are Frs Gino Berto, Igino Biffi, Daniel Cucchi and Francis Marcoccio.  They took their places yesterday afternoon at the table assigned to the Secretariat.

Then the Assembly proceeded to the election of the three moderators from a list prepared by the President of the Assembly. The list included one representative from each region. The following were elected:

Fr Leonard Mancini (Province of Central Italy – Region of Italy-Middle East);

Fr Raphael Jayapalan (Madras Province, India – South Asia Region);

Fr Manuel Jimenez (Vice-Province of Tropical Equatorial Africa – region of Africa-Madagascar).

In the course of the day the Assembly found time for two contributions that had not received proper attention the previous day due to lack of time. As promised by the Moderator during the opening ceremony on Monday morning, messages were read from the Salesian Cooperators and another, on behalf of the whole Salesian Family, from the Leader of the Volunteers of Don Bosco. These were read by two of the Chapter members, Fr Enrico Stasi, Provincial designate of  Piedmont and Valle d’Aosta, and Fr Onorino Pistellato, Superior of the Salesians of the Greek Catholic Church in Ukraine.

There was one other strictly juridical act – the ratification of the work done
by the Commission for examination of the minutes of the election of Delegates and Substitutes of the Provinces and Vice-Provinces to GC27. The Commission was made up of the Secretary-General, Fr Marian Stempel,  the Procurator General, Fr Francesco Maraccani  and Fr Saimy Joseph Ezhanikatt. The Assembly responded positively to the Commission’s request  for the sanatio of some cases, all of a formal nature.
