Young People in Castelnuovo Don Bosco

On the feast of the Assumption of Mary, about 5000 young people came to Castelnuovo Don Bosco, the home town of the Saint of the Youth, to prepare themselves to feast him on his 200th birthday. In the early afternoon the various groups coming from all over the world have gone on a pilgrimage to Colle Don Bosco, where they will spend the night in a unique experience of vigil and feast.

The arrival in Castelnuovo was distanced for the various groups so as to facilitate logistic operations. Each group could thus decide autonomously for the celebration of the Solemnity of the Assumption. Besides, differently from the other days in Pala Ruffini, for this morning, Saturday August 15th, there was no strongly structured program, but each group was offered the opportunity to approach progressively Don Bosco’s Bicentenary by visiting the places that witnessed his growth and formation.

The youth participating in SYM DON BOSCO 2015 – and many other groups of simple faithful and sympathizers of the Salesian Family – gathered in the church of Our Lady of Graces, where Don Bosco opened up to his Marian devotion; or in the church which is linked to the memory of Don Cafasso, the spiritual guide of the Saint of the Youth.

However, not all the young people of SYM DON BOSCO 2015 went to Castelnuovo. Many, among the volunteers, the organizers and the members of the choir and orchestra who animate the activities of the event, worked the whole morning at Colle Don Bosco – where the final and main acts of SYM DON BOSCO and of this special Salesian Jubilee Year will be performed.

In fact in the early afternoon there will be the pilgrimage of about 4.5 km from Castelnuovo to Colle, where all the young will have the possibility to visit the Sanctuary and the House of Becchi, where Don Bosco spent his early childhood.

In the evening, starting from 21.00 hours (Italian time), the great youth vigil will begin, to be later continued in a spontaneous form for the whole night, leading to the solemn concluding Mass that will be celebrated tomorrow.
