One interesting document of a century ago from the Irish Salesian Provincial Archives in Crumlin, Dublin, is a typed letter, dated 6 July 1920, to Fr Aloysius Sutherland, first rector of Salesian Agricultural College, Pallaskenry, Co. Limerick from Terence MacSwiney TD, Lord Mayor of Cork, regretting he could not attend the opening of the Agricultural College the following Sunday, 11 July 1920. A Sinn Féin member of the Dáil, MacSwiney was arrested on 16 August that summer and died on hunger strike in Brixton Prison on 21 October 1920.
